The New England Air Museum is located in Windsor Locks, CT at the Bradley International Airport and is a major national repository of historic Air Force and commercial airplanes.

This fine facility features a series of indoorand outdoor exhibits and displays, and an impressive inventory of over 80 restored, historic aircraft plus related equipment, engine displays, instrument, military uniforms, simulators, and demonstrations as well as hosting special events.

The museum also houses the 58th Bomb Wing Memorial.

Aircraft on Display

Most of the aircraft are located indoors, in three large hangars, with others located outdoors. Among the many fine aircraft on display is the B-29 Superfortress "Jack's Hack" shown in the photos below.

The crew was led by Pilot Jack Volkert.

The aircraft is beautifully restored, and meticulously maintained by the volunteers at the museum. It is among the finest B-29 restorations that we have seen across the country.

Among the aircraft on display are the following:

  • B-29 Superfortress
  • F-100 Super Sabre
  • F-104 Starfighter
  • A-26 Invader
  • Grumman F6F-5K Hellcat
  • Lockheed A-10 Electra
  • Bell UH-1B Iroquois (Huey)
  • Douglas A-3B Skywarrior
  • Douglas F4D-1 Skyray
  • Martin RB-57A Canberra

  • other aircraft and related equipment

Location, Parking, Admission and Hours

When we last visited the Museum, we were impressed with not only the facility and its content, but with the knowledge and friendliness of the staff and volunteers we met.

It is located at 36 Perimeter Rd., Bradley International Airport, Windsor Locks, CT 06096 (greater Hartford area). The museum is open 7 days a week, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (except Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Year's Day).

A small, reasonable admission fee is charged. Parking is free. It is staffed by volunteers and staff who do a great job of keeping the facility open and operating, restoring aircraft, and building new exhibits with only limited funding.

Inside, visitors can view a variety of exhibits, dioramas, photographs, maps, memorabilia, research library and videos about the history of the Air Force, commercial aviation, and Connecticut history.

Also located on the premises is the Wings 'n' Things Gift Shop, featuring shirts, caps, airplane models, patches, photographs and many other items related to aviation.
