B-29 Superfortress "Joltin Josie"
Of the 3,970 B-29s were built during production, only a few have been preserved, restored, and are on static display. A total of about 22 complete B-29 airframes are currently on display in the United States.
One B-29A survivor, "Joltin Josie", S/N 44-62220, is on display outdoors at the United States Air Force History & Traditions Museum on the grounds of Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas.
After active service was ended in 1960, the Superfortress was sent to Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland for use as a test target. It was later moved in 1985 for display at Kelly AFB, and again moved to Lackland AFB after the closure of Kelly AFB.
It is painted and marked to depict a B-29-40BW, S/N 42-24614, assigned to the 498th Bomb Group, 873rd Bomb Squadron.
