Boeing B-29 Superfortress "Jack's Hack"

The New England Air Museum is located in Windsor Locks, CT at the Bradley International Airport and is a major national repository of historic Air Force and commercial airplanes. It is open to the public, and a small, reasonable admission fee is charged. Ample free parking is provided.

This fine facility features a series of indoor exhibits and displays, and an impressive inventory of over 80 restored, historic aircraft plus related equipment, simulators, and demonstrations.

We last visited the museum in September of 2015, and were impressed with not only the facility and its content, but with the knowledge and friendliness of the staff and volunteers we met.

Most of the aircraft are located indoors, in three large hangars, with others located outdoors. The collection features many famous airplanes such as the F-100 Super Sabre, F-104 Starfighter, A-26 Invader, F-6F Thunderbolt, Lockheed A-10 Electra and many others. It also includes the 58th Bomb Wing Memorial.

Among the many fine aircraft on display is the B-29 Superfortress "Jack's Hack" shown in the photos below. The crew was led by Pilot Jack Volkert. The aircraft is beautifully restored, and meticulously maintained by the volunteers at the museum. It is among the finest B-29 restorations that we have seen across the country.

A total of 3,970 B-29s were built during production. Jack's Hack is one of only 22 complete B-29 airframes currently on display in the United States.
